The timber industry of Sarawak, Malaysia, contributed about RM9 million (US$2.5 million) in export revenue in 2006, an increase of 24.4% from 2005.
The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corp. General
Manager, Datu Len Talif Salleh, said wood products like
plywood, medium density fibreboard, particleboard,
blockboard and laminated boards constituted the bulk of
the exports, making up RM5.67 billion or 63% of total
exports, according to the Daily Express. He attributed the rise in exports to innovative
marketing strategy of the industry and its ability to meet
